It's not often Mr W and I get a night out. With work, the fur babies and life but when we do we rather enjoy a trip to the theatre. So yesterday we dropped Sam at his Grandpas, drove to Radcliffe and got the Metrolink into Manchester to see The Wipers Times at the Opera House.
Wasn't sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised. I am not a huge fan of Ian Hislop, I find him a little opinionated (but then I suppose as editor of Private Eye thats his job) but this was a gem. A witty and satirical take on a neglected historical event with life in the trenches and the war almost taking a supporting role. The way the British find humour in even the darkest of events (and as a nurse I can testify to this) is one of our finer qualities and even in the midst of World War 1 this was evident.
The play is on a Uk tour at the moment so if you get the chance go along, you won't be disappointed.
